I work with a variety of FOSS at BendTel, a local phone and Internet provider. I am also starting The 130 Collective, a hosting collective for hosting web and email for projects that are a benefit to the community. This site is hosted on one of the 130 Collective servers.

BendUG is a small group of people with interests in Free/Libre Open Source unix-like operating systems.

If this describes you, then join our mailing list.

As a suggestion, answer some of these questions on your page:

	* What OSes or Distros do you use?
	* When did you first install a BSD/Linux system?
	* What would you like to learn more about?
	* What shell do you use?

I'm a front-end web developer who recently moved to central Oregon to be closer to my family. I am almost entirely self taught when it comes to programming and design. My formal education is in Music and American History. Most of my professional work has been in front-end web design/development and graphic design. But lately I've found myself drawn towards application development. To that end I've begun studying that venerable language of computer science, C and taken a few forays into the realm…

This How-To assumes that you have a fresh FreeBSD 8.0 system, a non-root user account that is in the wheel group, and a shell that you know how to use (I used zsh). We will install e17 to /usr/local/opt/e17. This will keep it separate from the rest of our programs and libraries and make it easy to blow the whole thing away if we screw up. If you want to use a different location, be my guest.

I'm a Sr. Software Engineer for G5 a software company located in Bend, Oregon. I'm in the process of launching nVariable a software consulting firm as well and closing down a consulting business.

I've been a linux user since 1998, and a FreeBSD user for even longer.

I have a terrible habit of taking in machines that are too old for their own good.

My first experiment with a unix-like OS involved running NetBSD on a discarded compaq with a physical short somewhere in the display chain. Many rounds of rogue were played in a permanently red and black terminal before I finally branched out to more fulfilling pursuits. I eventually distro-hopped my way to Debian and have stuck with it ever since.
